Literature Text

Empty and lifeless,
sadness hangs heavy in the air.

Wooden planks and nails board the only window
and block others ability to see inside.

A hue of gray colors chipped and cracked walls,
and dust thickly covers wooden floors, along with pieces of her memory,
black and white, fading...

Footprints of a past lover can be traced in the settled dust,
and the floorboards creak and moan with the weight of heartache.

A year has passed,
and since then the space has been a vast darkness.
Only hints of light appear, glittering like shards of broken glass in the sun... like stars,
only to disappear and leave emptiness once more.

Not a soul has walked within those walls,
not since the previous owner abandoned the dwelling in such disarray,
left it to crumble and deteriorate without their care...

Diffused throughout the room is the faint echo of its song,
the deep thud, now soft, hazy.

The gardens that once flourished with life,
have withered.

The vines that crept up its outside walls,
are now only dead remains, twisted and tangled.

Will anyone walk up those front steps?
Will they have the key?

Or has it been lost?
Tucked away within that past man's pocket,
traveling further and further from the lock it opens…

Her Heart.
When all seemed lost. How strange it is to look back.
